Early Monday morning, October 12, 2020, at the age of 89, Harry D. Powell Jr. ascended to heaven straight into the waiting arms of his beloved wife, Nancy. Harry was born on May 3, 1931 to Harry and Emma (Eubanks) Powell in Alexandria, Virginia. Harry was predeceased by his loving wife, Nancy Lee Clarke Powell and all his siblings. Harry and Nancy owned and ran the Bel-Air Motel in Kill Devil Hills for many years.

Harry is survived by his six children: Terry Johnson (Bruce), Susan Hill (David), Cyndy Midgett (Tommy), Ginny England, Beth Selby, and Robert Powell; grandchildren: Christy Whitver, Brandon Hill, Nathaniel Hill, Dustin Winstead, Travis Winstead, Christian England, Hannah England, and Evan Powell; and great grandchildren: Dillon Whitver, James Whitver, Benjamin Whitver, Armani Whitver, Jayden Parker Hill, Landon Hill, Brooke Hill, MacKenzie Hill, Ellie Lynn Powell, and Emerson Winstead, and his loving, compassionate companion, Jackson Heard that the family was so blessed to have in his life.

A Memorial Service will be held on January 30, 2021, at 1 p.m. at St. Andrew’s By The Sea Episcopal Church in Nags Head, North Carolina. COVID-19 safety protocols will be in effect. Harry will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. To honor his commitment to our military, memorial contributions may be made in Harry’s name to the (1) Gary Sinise Foundation (www.garysinisefoundation.org), (2) Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org), or (3) Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation (www.tunnel2towers.org).
