Some COVID-19 metrics are trending down in North Carolina.

On Jan. 29, North Carolina reported 6,959 new cases of coronavirus 477 fewer than a week ago. Hospitalizations for COVID-19 numbered 3,048, down 833 cases. Across North Carolina, 2,039 ICUs are in use with 432 ICUs empty but staffed.

Deaths of North Carolinians from the virus number 9,157 and increase of 693 deaths during the past seven days.

Dare County – As of Jan. 28, the total number of cumulative COVID-19 positive cases in Dare County is 2,506.

Active positive resident cases number 222, according to the county’s dashboard.

Dare County’s death count remains at seven persons.

COVID-19 patients in a hospital number 10.

In Dare County, those now eligible to receive the vaccine are people 65 years of age and older and healthcare workers. Those who are qualified to receive the vaccine can register online at darenc.com/Register4vaccine or call 252-475-5008. Those who register will be called to schedule an appointment.

Through Sunday, Jan. 24, 4,588 first doses of coronavirus vaccine have been administered in Dare County. Some 51 second doses have been administered. Some 3,198 appointments were scheduled. The waiting list held the names of 2,384 individuals.

Regarding vaccine availability in Dare County, Kelly Nettnin, communications specialist at Dare County health division reports that 300 is Dare’s standard allotment of first doses from the state each week for the next three weeks. Dare requested an additional special event request for 1500 doses for next week and were granted 500. As a result, there are a total of 800 doses for the week of Feb. 1; 300 doses for the week of Feb. 8 and 300 for the week of Feb. 15. Dare was required to reschedule 288 people who were supposed to be vaccinated Friday, Jan. 29, 2021.

At the Dare County Detention Center, tests show two cellmates were infected, bringing the total of COVID-19 positive detainees to 20.

Peak Resources in Nags Head initially reported 31 cases. On the Peak Resources website, the total case number is 29. Spring Arbor in Kill Devil Hills shows one staff member and six residents have the coronavirus, according to the state’s dashboard.

Hyde County – Hyde County has published new phone numbers to use for registering for a vaccination and to make an appointment. On the mainland, call the county health department at 252-926-4467. On Ocracoke, call 252-489-3622.

As of press time, Hyde County had not updated its COVID-19 report from Jan. 22, 2021.

Tyrrell County – On Jan. 28, Martin-Tyrrell-Washington Health District reported that Tyrrell County’s total cumulative case number is now 264. Six individuals have died in the county due to coronavirus. In Tyrrell County, 400 first doses and six second doses of coronavirus vaccine have been administered.

A COVID-19 outbreak of 23 cases at the Tyrrell County Work Farm was reported last week.

Camden, Currituck, Pasquotank counties – On Jan. 29, 2021, Albemarle Regional Health Services published the following case information:

Camden: 455 lab-confirmed cases, with 33 cases now active. Camden County has lost five people to the coronavirus.

Currituck: 1,088 total lab-confirmed cases. Some 121 cases are active. Currituck County has lost 13 people to coronavirus.

Pasquotank: 2,627 lab-confirmed cases. Active cases number 189. COVID-related deaths in the county number 71 people.

The cumulative total cases for the eight-county region stands at 9,936 cases. The active number of cases in the region is 699. Across the region, 226 people have died of coronavirus.
