Tanya Lamo has been selected to fill the role of county Extension director for North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Dare County. She and her husband relocated from Pennsylvania and are settling into a home in Manteo. Moving with them are their three daughters, who keep them busy with many activities, as well as two entertaining miniature dachshunds. They are already enjoying the many beautiful assets the area has to offer.

Lamo, who is coming from the Penn State Extension, said Extension is woven throughout a large portion of her life.  She grew up in Adams County, Pa. and was a super 4-Her. Summers would find her taking on projects from gardening, basket weaving and swine, to cross stitching, sewing and more. She feels this experience played a large role in pursuing a degree in ornamental horticulture at Delaware Valley University. From graduation, Lamo went on to teach vocational horticulture in two different programs, both designed to provide technical and soft skills training to adults and youth with special needs. These opportunities enforced Lamo’s love of teaching and learning.

Lamo’s Extension career has included working as a 4-H program assistant and volunteer, an agriculture marketing and entrepreneurship educator, and most recently, she served as the program area lead for the Leadership and Community Vitality unit of her team. Over the course of her work with Extension, Lamo earned a master of management degree from Penn State Smeal College of Business in the Corporate Innovation and Entrepreneurship program. She is also a member of several professional organizations that help her stay connected with and learn from Extension colleagues around the world. She is eager to continue this journey in Dare County.
