If we stand on the shore and our life is symbolic of the ingoing and outgoing tide, then we know to expect the unexpected. Some days, the tide rolls in gently with treasures and gifts from the sea. In reality, things are going well. Family and friends shower us with love and affection. We are told we are doing well at work. These are the days we consider ourselves blessed beyond measure. Peaceful, loving, joyous yet calm.

And then there are days where the tide turns, bringing with it seaweed and debris that clutters the beauty of the beach. The scattered debris and trash symbolizes when everything goes wrong in our life. Nothing works like it should. Conflict and chaos erupts. That is part of life to accept the good days alongside the tough ones. Being in a spiritual fog can contribute to feeling off balance and out of sync too. How to get past it and overcome these days? James, chapter 4 says we should draw near to God and He will draw near to us. A devotion from the internet, a scripture with morning coffee, anything that can get us back to God first thing in the morning will help the remainder of our day, regardless of which way the tide is turning.
