Manteo defeats Cape Hatteras in Monday night basketball game

On the Buxton basketball court Monday night, Manteo varsity boys team defeated Cape Hatteras Secondary 63-56. The win was the first of the season for the Redskins.

Manteo led by four points at the end of the first quarter. Late in the second quarter, Cape Hatteras poured in six points, including for four points at the free line. The Hurricanes posted a one-point lead at half-time.

In the third, Manteo ignited scoring 22 points on two-pointers and four free throws. Cape Hatteras struggled and posted 13. The quarter ended with Manteo ahead 47-39.

In the last eight, the teams traded goals. Cape Hatteras fouled for possession and pulled to within three. Manteo sank two free throws and a field goal to claim the game.

Playing varsity basketball for Manteo this season are Mekhi Bias, Amyas Kenyon, Kenyen Conti, Pearce Gregory, Ivey Midgett, Will Waughtel, Jack Cook, Brady James, Fekadu Close and Trey Pearce.

Leading scorers for Manteo were Will Waughtel with 20 and Jack Cook with 11.

Leading scorers for Cape Hatteras were Osmar Padilla with 21 points and Ayden Paddock with 10.
