In North Carolina, new COVID-19 cases numbered 3,227 on Friday, Feb. 19, 2021.

On the North Carolina COVID-19 dashboard, 1,780 people in North Carolina were reported hospitalized with the coronavirus. That’s down 112 hospitalizations from Thursday.

Winter weather across the nation has resulted in shipping delays from vaccine manufacturers to health departments and medical providers across the country.

Some 6 million doses are backlogged nationwide because of the winter storm, the White House coronavirus task force said at Friday’s briefing. The delays have impacted all 50 states.

As of Feb. 18, North Carolina has administered almost two million doses of vaccine.

North Carolina has awarded nearly $27 million in grants to 34 municipal and county governments in North Carolina in response to the adverse economic and public health impacts of COVID-19.

The federal funds are being distributed through the Community Development Block Grant Coronavirus (CDBG-CV) program to assist local governments with subsistence payments to prevent evictions and utility disconnections in their communities and financial assistance to small business with fewer than 100 employees and micro-enterprises with no more than five employees.

In the northeast region, Elizabeth City and Tyrrell County received grants.

Vaccinations – North Carolina is currently vaccinating all people in Groups 1 and 2, which include healthcare workers, long-term care staff and residents, and people 65 and older.

On Feb. 24, vaccine eligibility for people in Group 3 will begin in some counties for teachers and childcare workers and March 10 for additional frontline essential workers.

More than 40% of North Carolina’s residents 65 and older have been vaccinated.

Dare County – Apparently, Dare County did not receive approval to host a mega event using 3,000 doses to address 2,746 people in Groups 1 and 2 currently on the waiting list. For the next three weeks, Dare is scheduled to receive 500 doses each week. The state did increase the weekly vaccine doses to Dare by 100 for next week. Next week, vaccinations will be administered at the Kill Devil Hills Parks and Recreation facility and at the Dare Center in Manteo. The clinics are by appointment only.

The Walgreens location at 5312 Virginia Dare Trail in Kitty Hawk is participating in the nationwide program for COVID-19 vaccinations. The pharmacy started administering vaccinations last weekend. Go to walgreens.com for more information and to make an appointment at the Kitty Hawk location.

As of Feb. 18, 2021, Dare County’s death count remains at 12.

On the same day, the total number of cumulative COVID-19 cases in Dare County is 2,744.

Active positive resident cases number 94, according to the county’s dashboard, with 85 in home isolation and nine hospitalized.

In Dare County, those who are qualified to receive the vaccine can register online at darenc.com/Register4vaccine or call 252-475-5008. Those who register will be called to schedule an appointment.

As of Feb. 19, 8,232 first doses of coronavirus vaccine have been administered in Dare County. Second doses numbering 3,766 have been administered, according to the state’s dashboard.

The Dare County Detention Center reports no new COVID-19 cases. All facilities remain on the outbreak list for an extended period of time following the last active case. Peak Resources in Nags Head and Spring Arbor in Kill Devil Hills remain on the outbreak list.

Hyde County – In Hyde County, telephone numbers to use for registering for a vaccination and to make an appointment are 252-926-4467 on the mainland and 252-489-3622 on Ocracoke.

On Feb. 19, Hyde County Health Department reports 633 total cumulative cases with 9 active positive cases. Deaths number eight persons.

In the Hyde County Correctional facility, one person has an active case of COVID-19.

Some 1,085 first doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered and 493 second doses, according to the state’s vaccine page.

Tyrrell County – Martin-Tyrrell-Washington Health District. On Thursday, Feb. 18, Health Director Wes Gray wrote “Our weekly vaccine shipments – both first and second doses – have been delayed by national weather events. We have had to cancel our ‘2nd’ dose mass vaccination clinics in Tyrrell and Washington County for tomorrow and Saturday. We will repeat those clinics (same time and place) for patients next week on Friday, Feb. 26 and Saturday, Feb. 26. Patients can receive their 2nd dose up to 6 weeks (42) days after their first dose.

Martin-Tyrrell-Washington Health District reported that Tyrrell County, as of Feb. 18, has a total of 302 lab-confirmed cases. One more active case was added on Feb. 17. Six individuals have died in the county due to coronavirus.

The Tyrrell County Work Farm reports no active cases on the state’s dashboard. Tyrrell House, a residential care facility, remains on the congregant living outbreak list.

In Tyrrell County, 606 first doses of COVID-19 vaccine and 231 second doses have been administered as of Feb. 19, 2021, on the state’s dashboard.

Camden, Currituck, Pasquotank counties – Albemarle Regional Health Services reports that due to weather-related vaccine shipment delays, the agency “will NOT be announcing first and second dose clinics for the week for February 22-25 at this time. We will provide updated clinic schedules as soon as we are notified of anticipated shipping dates. ARHS is aware that individuals will need their second doses next week. Rest assured that you will receive your guaranteed dosage upon arrival. Second doses can be administered up to six weeks (42 days) following the first dose.”

Albemarle Regional Health Services has posted the following case information as of Feb. 19:

Camden: 560 lab-confirmed cases, with 46 cases now active. Camden County has lost five people to the coronavirus. As of Feb. 19, in Camden County, first dose vaccines administered number 1,822 and second doses 911, according to the state’s dashboard.

Currituck: 1,327 total lab-confirmed cases. Some 93 cases are active. Currituck County has lost 15 people to coronavirus, indicating two more deaths in the county. Currituck County has administered 4,860 vaccine first doses and 1,685 second doses, according to the state’s dashboard.

Currituck Health and Rehabilitation Center remains on the outbreak list.

Pasquotank: 2,995 lab-confirmed cases. Active cases number 52. COVID-related deaths in the county number 73 people. In Pasquotank, 8,589 vaccine first doses and 4,580 second doses have been administered, says the state’s dashboard. Citadel Elizabeth, Elizabeth City Health and Rehabilitation, Waterbrooke and Brookdale Elizabeth City are on the congregant living outbreak list as is Albemarle District Jail.
