National Wildlife Refuges in eastern North Carolina are downright soggy with all of the rain that the area has seen recently.
Those planning to visit one of the nine refuges in the Coastal North Carolina National Wildlife Refuge Complex this weekend are advised to watch out for wet roads that may be difficult for vehicles to navigate.
Get road updates for visiting the Pungo Unit of Pocosin Lakes NWR by calling 252-796-3004 x225. Real-time information about water on refuges is available online at usgs.gov.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service partners with the U.S. Geological Survey to maintain water quality and groundwater level monitoring stations at Mattamuskeet and Pocosin Lakes Refuges.
