Marlene A. Slate, 88, of Carova Beach, passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2021.

Born in Brattleboro, Vermont, on July 3^rd, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Ulrich and Anna Corbeil. Marlene married Richard L. Slate on November 28^th, 1953. She was a longtime resident of Corolla and very active in the community and Carova Fire Station in Carova, NC. She was an avid knitter and teacher, she was an emergency responder and very active in the Ladies Auxiliary at the fire station.

Survivors include her children, Michele Slate, Matthew B. Slate (Michael Lee), Gregory P. Slate (Melinda), Stephen P. Slate (Stephanie), Jeffrey M. Slate (Diane) and Brandon J. Slate (Betsy). She also leaves behind numerous loving grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The Slate family wishes to thank all of the Carova community that pulled together to make Marlene’s final wish to live her life out in her home of over 50 years. This could have never been possible without their hard work and love they had for her. We thank you more than you will ever know.

A graveside service will be held at 11 am March 23, 2021 in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. Norfolk. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Corolla Chapel, 1136 Corolla Village Rd. and Saint Jude Children’s Hospital, www.StJude.org.
