Wanchese, NC – Philip Maynard Gray, 81, went to be with his Lord on Friday, March 19, 2021, at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center in Elizabeth City, NC.

He was born in Wanchese, NC on January 14, 1940, to the late Van Buren and Betty Etheridge Gray.

Phil loved life and lived the journey as he shared his kindness in a caring and giving way that was unique! He never met a stranger… Everyone instantly loved him even with an occasional practical joke. Music played an early role in his life with recordings of good ole Rockabilly music in the 50s and 60s which started with his cousin Mac Etheridge. This role took him through many doors and introduced him to a treasure trove of great friendships all around the country.

He is survived by his daughters, Delena Ostrander (Lars) of Kill Devil Hills, NC, Brenda Fluke of Chesapeake, VA, Connie Gray of Kill Devil Hills, NC, and Karen Collins (Tony) of Hillsborough, NH; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; along with a large family of nieces, nephews, and wonderful cousins and friends.

He was predeceased by his brother; Van Buren Gray Jr.; his sisters, Gilda Gray Hosteller and Ima Jean Gray Herring; and his daughter, Wanda Bea Gray Yanello.

The family will receive friends at the home of Delena and Lars Ostrander in Colington, Kill Devil Hills, NC.

A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Monday, March 29, 2021, at Twiford Colony Chapel, Manteo, NC. Private burial will take place at Manteo Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Following the service, visitors are welcome at the home of Delena and Lars Ostrander in Colington, Kill Devil Hills, NC and at all other times.
