Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

By Mike Caton

John 9:33, “If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.”

This is still the former blind man speaking. Though he doesn’t know everything about Jesus, he knows enough to know he has a connection with God. And it is not just because of the things Jesus says, it is the things Jesus does. Jesus didn’t just wish this man well, he cured him of his lifelong blindness.

And that made me think about our lives, about the way we live. It is easy to say all the right things, but when it comes to living the right life, that is where the challenge comes in. Our actions speak much louder than our words. And we need to be aware of what our actions say about us. Think about what you are known for in your community or circle of friends and associates. Are you an encourager or a discourager? Do you build people up or do you tear them down? Are you the one they go to when they need to talk or are you the one they go to for the latest gossip? Are you a helper or a hindrance?

Jesus told his followers we were to be salt, light and yeast in a dark, bland, evil world. We are to be the ones who are making things better, not on our own or of our own power, but because the power of God is shining through us and we are working with the power God provides. People ought to recognize God in the things they see and hear from us. Just like they saw God in the things Jesus did and said. He is our example, we need to be more like Jesus.

Father, help my light shine. In Jesus’ name, amen.
