Black bear relaxing on the refuge
While black bears can be seen all year on Alligator River Refuge, the best bear viewing months are the middle of May until late fall, according to USFWS.
Black bears are omnivores. Besides eating berries, nuts and a wide variety of grains and plants, they also eat reptiles, mammals and amphibians, fish and insects.
