Do you know what the last Saturday in April is? It’s Independent Bookstore Day – a one-day national party taking place at indie bookstores across the country.

IBD started in 2014 in California and is a one-day celebration of books, readers and indie bookselling and the community can help celebrate at Downtown Books in Manteo. They will be celebrating with special IBD merchandise – Baby Yoda onesies, exclusive signed editions and literary gift items that can’t be found anywhere else on any other day.

They will also be giving away free Dog Man and Pete the Cat masks to the first 40 kids, have lots of free items for adults plus gifts with purchase like tote bags and free Libro.fm audiobooks with a $15 in-store purchase. There’s also a Story Walk for young readers that lets them follow the pages of a best-selling picture book as they enjoy a stroll around town, the roll-out of the store’s expanded Blind Date Book program and a used book sale – buy two get one free.
