Donald Eugene Gustafson, 72, of Kill Devil Hills, died April 24, 2021 at The Outer Banks Hospital in Nags Head. He was born on August 25,1948 in Galesburg, Ill.

He is survived by sister Dr. Christine Petzing (Louis), a niece, great-niece, great-nephew and many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by  grandparents Myrtle and Elmer Gustafson, mother Harriett Gustafson Hale, stepfather Francis Hale and nephew Spc. Bryan Hale Nelson.

A memorial service will be held on May 2 at 1 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church By The Sea in Nags Head. Masks will be required and seating will be limited.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dare County Home Health and Hospice and/or to Grace Lutheran Church By The Sea. At a later date, Donnie’s remains will be taken to his final resting place beside his mother and stepfather in Knoxville, Ill. where graveside services will be accorded and a celebration of life will be held.
