Wilmer Kirby Layton, 95 of Elizabeth City, died May 11, 2021 at The Brian Center. He was born April 6, 1926 in Carveys Point, NJ to the late Harold Burgess Layton and Florence Hanna Hewitt Layton and was the widower of Leah Antionette Horner Layton. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII.

He is survived by sons Bruce Harold Layton (Colin), Larry Nelson Layton (Jane); sister Mary Baynes; brother Clinton Layton (Barbara); granddaughters Jane Smith and Joelle Ferrell; and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by son Douglas Kirby Layton.

A memorial service will be held May 22 at 2 p.m. at Twiford Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Bryan Pease officiating and military honors rendered by the U.S. Army, the William Clarence Jackson VFW Post #6060 and the Patriot Guard Riders.
