COVID-19 vaccination numbers for Dare

Dare County’s Division of Health and Human Services has provided vaccination percentages by zip codes and age brackets through May 8, 2021. Population counts are based on 2010 Census figures and may explain percentages above 100.

Generally speaking, Roanoke Island and the mainland villages have the lowest percentage of residents vaccinated.

The Manteo zip code includes the Town of Manteo and the unincorporated areas of northern Roanoke Island. The percentage vaccinated in zip code 27954 is 34.2% of the 7,938 residents. In Wanchese, 23.4% of 1,643 residents have been vaccinated.

On the mainland, the Manns Harbor zip code includes East Lake and Mashoes. Residents total 888 and 29.2% have been vaccinated. In Stumpy Point, 47 of the 225 or 20.89% of residents have been vaccinated.

On Hatteras Island, the vaccination percentages range from highs of 110.2% in Avon to 97.56% in Waves with 80 of 82 residents vaccinated. Buxton – with the most residents on Hatteras Island – has the lowest percentage at 36.7%.

The remaining figures for Hatteras Island show Frisco at 45.44%, Hatteras at 52.6%, Rodanthe at 50.7% and Salvo at 51.2%.

On the northern beaches, Nags Head showed 51.3% vaccinated. The Kill Devil Hills and Colington zip code shows the highest population with 11,245 residents. The percentage vaccinated is 38.8%. Kitty Hawk’s zip code includes Southern Shores and Duck. The percentage vaccinated is the highest on the northern beaches at 53.1%.

In the age breakdown, residents 65 and older are way ahead of other age brackets. Percentages register between 106.5% and 94.9%.

A dramatic fall off in percentages starts at the bracket 60-64, where 44.1% of residents are vaccinated. The bracket with 55-59 years of age registered 40.4%.

The percentages from 45 to 54 are in the 30s.

Starting at 44 years of age and downward to 25 years of age, percentages are in the 20s.

For the youngest residents eligible, the percentages are in the teens. For residents ages 15-19, the percentage vaccinated is 16.1% and for 20-24 years, 17.2%.
