Fannie Gray Cowell, 100, of Weeksville, died May 17, 2021 at home. Born in Perquimans County on September 17, 1920 to the late Dempsey Samuel Gray and Sarah Elizabeth Thompson Gray, she was the widow of Erving W. Cowell.

She is survived by sons Erving W. Cowell Jr. and wife Annette and Jerry L. Cowell Sr. and his wife Terrah; grandchildren Jerry L. Cowell Jr. and wife Beth and Amanda C. Russell and husband Jonathan; five great-grandchildren; and brother Wilbert Gray.

She was predeceased by sisters Annie Fink, Dora Morris and Maude Singletary and brothers David Gray, O’Brian Gray, Robert Gray, Edward Gray and Joe Gray.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on May 21 at West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. F. Joe Griffith officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home. Twiford Memorial Chapel, Elizabeth City is serving the family. www.TwifordFH.com.
