Any person who ever met JB had a lifelong friend named JB. JB selflessly put everyone else above himself, always with contagious good humor. JB served tirelessly as a firefighter, EMT, officer, and educator; beginning with Southside Virginia Emergency Crew, a founding member of Colonial Heights EMS, a Lieutenant with Enon Volunteer FD, all the way up to his current active service with Kill Devil Hills Fire Department. He was an avid supporter of schools and sports. JB coached middle school softball and founded a high school swim team in Colonial Heights. He served his communities on boards and committees too numerous to list. He will be forever remembered as a role model husband, father, grandfather, mentor and friend. JB not only touched, but bettered the lives of us all.

JB is survived by his wife, Susan Minetree Crist; son AJ Crist (Hannah) and grandson Grayson of Kill Devil Hills; brother Konrad Crist (Karen) of Hardy, VA, and nephews KC and Kip Crist. The list of close friends JB leaves behind spans a continent and is too high to number.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2021, at Son Rise Church of Christ presided by Kill Devil Hills Fire Department Chaplains Jason Woolard and Steve Siegrist. A Celebration of Life will follow at the fire department.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kill Devil Hills Fire Department Auxiliary, PO Box 1719, Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948.
