At around midnight Sunday, a major break occurred in the water main supplying water to Avon.

At 8:15 a.m. Sunday morning, only four feet of water remained in the elevated tower, according to an official.

“Water users in Avon are experiencing extremely low pressure and it is possible that the supply may run out,” stated a press release from Dare County. “Please limit water use to only what is absolutely necessary.”

The water line repair is anticipated to be complete by early afternoon Sunday.

Once water is restored, the water department will issue a boil water notice. The release from the county stated the “system advisory will be in place for 24 hours until the bacteriological test is completed.”
