Shawboro woman struck, killed by vehicle Monday night

A Shawboro woman was struck by a vehicle and died Monday night, June 21, 2021.

According to North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the pedestrian was lying down on the pavement in the 800 block of Shawboro Road in Currituck County when she was struck by the vehicle. The pedestrian as identified as Mariah Kelsy Sayre, 27.

Highway Patrol reported that a 17-year old girl traveling westbound hit Sayre at 9:10 p.m., but didn’t know what she had hit and went home. Her family heard about the incident the next morning and voluntarily went to the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office.

State Highway Patrol First Sgt. Edwin Forbes reports the girl was “very cooperative.”

The narrative was collaborated with a vehicle inspection, which found very minor damage, stated Forbes.

No charges have been filed at this time.
