Carlton Aldridge “Jackie” Shannon Sr., 88, of Manteo, died July 3, 2021 at The Outer Banks Hospital.

Jackie was born on August 10, 1932 to the late Lillie Perry Shannon and John Shannon.

Having served his country honorably during the Korean and Vietnam wars, Jackie retired as a Master Chief Petty Officer from the United States Coast Guard after 21 years of service.

Jackie is survived by wife Shirley Midgett Shannon; sons Carlton A. Shannon Jr. and wife Karen and John Shannon; and grandchildren Kathleen Shannon, Emily Shannon and Mary Shannon.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Pauline Gray and Yvonne Hammond.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on July 14 at Twiford Colony Chapel with Pastor Marc O’Neal officiating. Burial will take place in Manteo Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives for visitation one hour prior to the service. The service will be live streamed at https://www.facebook.com/TwifordFuneralHome.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Mount Olivet United Methodist Church, PO Box 787, Manteo, NC 27954.
