Jack Thomas Sawyer, 91, died August 23, 2021 at Waterbrooke of Elizabeth City after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born in Columbia on February 8, 1930 to the late Thomas Milton Sawyer  and Martha Walker Sawyer.

He is survived by son Covah Wayne Sawyer, his wife Candice and her sons Scott and Michael Lawrence; sister-in-law Shirley Sawyer; a grandson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by sister Mae S. White, brothers Scott O. Sawyer and Fred Sawyer, long-time companion Mary Pierce and a grandson.

Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on August 26 at West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 109 Chadburn Avenue, Elizabeth City, NC 27909. Twiford Memorial Chapel, Elizabeth City is serving the family. www.TwifordFH.com
