Shirley Mae Wood Blackwell Grimes, 90, of Elizabeth City, died August 31, 2021 at home. Born August 11, 1931, in Annapolis, Md. to Lumpkin Wood and Lina Forbes Wood, Shirley was the sister of John Roy Wood and Raymond Lee Wood.

Shirley was the wife of Donald Shew Blackwell and Donald Earl Grimes. She is survived by sons Michael Lee Grimes (Chip Tullar) and Robert Eldred Grimes (Linda Grimes), grandsons Joshua David Grimes, Jonathan Daniel Grimes, Joseph Benjamin Grimes, granddaughter Rebecca Marie Grimes, a niece and two nephews.

A funeral service will be held September 3 at Twiford Memorial Chapel. The family will receive one hour prior to service. Burial will be in the Whitehurst Family Cemetery. Twiford Memorial Chapel is serving the family. www.TwifordFH.com
