Beach Food Pantry is looking for youth leaders from every school across Dare County, as well as homeschool and College of The Albemarle representatives, to form the Beach Food Pantry Youth Advisory Board.

The board will offer youth from diverse backgrounds a chance to participate in a leadership development program, while acting as ambassadors for the Beach Food Pantry within their own communities. The Youth Advisory Board is being created to amplify the voices of local youth and contribute to Beach Food Pantry programming, while providing young people with a unique opportunity to be drivers of their own ideas from conceptualization to implementation and reflection, stated a press release from Beach Food Pantry.

“We are incredibly excited to get the Youth Board up and running. It will be a great opportunity to raise awareness about the Beach Food Pantry and the issues of hunger, to instill a sense of philanthropy and to hopefully teach some life skills (budgeting, planning, teamwork, etc.) to a great group of local kids,” said Beach Food Pantry board member Matt Melvin.

Community, youth and faith-based organizations, as well as educators, are invited to encourage youth who are interested to contact Beach Food Pantry executive director Elisabeth Silverthorne at 252-261-2756.
