The Scuppernong River Festival is on schedule for Saturday, October 9 on the streets and waterfront of downtown Columbia.

This will be the 30th year of the old-fashioned street festival and will open with the 10 a.m. Main Street Parade sponsored by First National Bank. The day-long event will include music, entertainment, children’s rides, water activities, helicopter rides, food, arts and craft vendors.

Fireworks over the river at dark and a concert from the Tyrrell County Courthouse steps will round out the day.

The Scuppernong River Festival Committee is encouraging those who plan to attend to get the COVID-19 vaccine, wear masks and socially distance. Festival organizers are also planning changes that will help prevent spread of the virus.

The festival was canceled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Applications are still being accepted from food vendors. “Spaces are still available which provides a wonderful opportunity for local churches, clubs and organizations,” stated Nicole Roughton of the festival committee. “A food booth can help organizations raise funds while providing a service to the community and a front row seat to the day long festival.”

She said there are still spaces available for arts, crafts and merchandise vendors.
