Robert Allen Fink, Bob to friends and Robbie to family, passed away on September 12, 2021, at the age of 77, at his home in Buxton, North Carolina.

Bob is survived by the love of his life and best friend Sheryl, his wife for 53 years. Together, they created a beautiful life for each other, and their home was always a place of welcome and warmth for all.

Bob also leaves behind his son Craig, daughter-in-law Kim, grandsons Jack and Alex, sister Doris Schoenfarber (Dave), brother Marty Stone (Vicki), brother-in-law Mitch Zeldin, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Bob was born in Brooklyn, New York to Moe and Sally Fink. He attended Tilden High School and the University of Bridgeport. He served in the Army Reserves. Bob worked hard as an electrician for more than 30 years as a member of IBEW Local Union #3 throughout the New York City area, positively impacting every job site and those who worked on it. Bob retired at 60 with Sheryl to his dream location in the Outer Banks.

Nearly 40 years ago, during a stop in Kitty Hawk on the way home from a trip to Florida, Bob caught two 45-pound Red Drum, and he was “hooked,” spending most every vacation after that in the Outer Banks. For the past 17 years Bob and Sheryl have lived in a house that Bob designed himself, perfectly perched overlooking Pamlico Sound where they hosted countless gatherings and happy hours for friends and family with great music, even better food, and lots and lots of laughter.

Bob had a passion for fishing and his boat, always looking for that perfect spot in the sound for fish and crabs, and patiently passing those skills on to his son, grandsons, and others. He also had a serious green thumb and grew a variety of vegetables. Bob was a master craftsman . . . if you needed a house re-wired, plumbing work done, cabinets built from scratch, furniture refinished, a basement remodeled . . . Bob was the guy to get the job done, and get it done right.

Bob was a generous friend and dedicated volunteer. He made a significant impact at the Cape Hatteras Anglers Club, helping to make numerous improvements to the building and grounds for more than a decade, managing the installation of a new kitchen and bingo system. Bob also assisted each year with the Club’s fishing tournament and was part of the team that cooked some of the best pulled pork and marking off fishing locations. For those in the know, Bob was also the local island IT expert. He was a true friend to Hatteras Island.

The group of men and women from all walks of faiths are dedicated to providing compassionate assistance to those most in need on Hatteras Island.
