College of The Albemarle (COA) is currently accepting applications for Medical Laboratory Technology for spring semester 2022.

Medical Laboratory Technology is a four-semester, 17-month program that prepares individuals to perform clinical laboratory procedures used in the maintenance of health and the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLT) perform tests that can determine the cause of an infection and use equipment to analyze blood’s chemical components (like glucose and cholesterol). They know how to use a microscope to identify normal and abnormal blood cells and determine a patient’s blood type. MLTs supply the health care team with a critical information, both diagnostic and therapeutic.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median salary for a medical laboratory technician was $52,330 in 2018 and the job market in this field is projected to grow 11% through 2028, according to a COA press release.
