Recent area high school sports action saw the Manteo varsity volleyball team win a September 17 home conference match against Pasquotank County by a score of 3-0, taking the first three sets 25-11, 26-24, and 25-11.

Competing against more than two dozen other teams, First Flight boys placed 20th in the Sep 18 Adidas XC Challenge at the WakeMed Soccer Complex Cary. Warner Campbell was the top First Flight finisher with a time of 16:59. Tatum Dermatas was 45th overall running a 21:15.30 to help First Flight girls place 19th in the Invitational Girls 5000 Meter Run Finals team standings.

On Monday, Sept. 20, the Manteo JV soccer team won an away non-conference game in Virginia Beach, Va. against Catholic High School by a score of 4-0. Playing at home, also on Monday, the First Flight varsity soccer team claimed a decisive 9-0 conference win against Camden County. The win gives the Nighthawks a 3-0-1 record so far.

Wednesday, Sep 22, saw First Flight host a 5000 meter run cross country meet and claim a win for the boys over teams form Currituck, Camden and Manteo.

First Flight’s Warner Campbell led everyone to the finish line with a 16:55 and Gavin Jessup was the leading Currituck County finisher in third with a time of 18:50. Zain Bhula in 20th at 22:21 was Manteo’s first finisher.

First Flight boys won the meet with an overall low score of 25, followed by Currituck with 42, Camden with 66, and Manteo with 105 points.

In girls competition, it was Currituck’s Kylee Dinterman out in front by more than a minute with a time of 20:10.

Team scores were much closer for girls as Currituck’s 41 points helped the Knights slip past Camden, in second with 43. First Flight girls were a solid third with 61 points and Manteo trailed with Manteo 82.

Lead runner for Manteo was Madison Flynn, in third place with a time of 21:56, with First Flight’s Claire Meads the next finisher timed at 22:43.

On Sept. 23, the Manteo varsity volleyball team lost their away conference match against Camden County (Camden, NC) by a score of 3-0 (25-11, 25-10 and 25-10).

After defeating Pasquotank County 3-0 on Tuesday, the First Flight varsity volleyball team fell to Currituck County 3-2 on Thursday. First Flight is now 7-5 overall, and Currituck posts a 8-5 record for the season.

According to MaxPreps, the Manteo girls tennis team is 2-5 overall with no other information posted.
