NC Rhododendron Queen to be guest at Scuppernong River Festival

Taylor Loyd, the North Carolina Rhododendron Queen, will be a special guest and entertainer at the Scuppernong River Festival. The festival will be staged on October 9 in Columbia, Tyrrell County.

Loyd is native of Mooresville and is a junior at UNC-Chapel Hill majoring in vocal performance and psychology. She is a UNC music ambassador and founded the nonprofit corporation Healing Hearts for the Arts that focuses on music and art therapy for at risk youth.

She is the representative of the NC Rhododendron Festival, which has been hosted for the past 70 years in Bakersville. Located at the base of Roan Mountain in Mitchell County, the festival is a Western North Carolina tradition and features regional dancing, music and artisans. It is held the second full week of each June. The Rhododendron Queen travels extensively across the US to promote Western North Carolina tourism, craft and recreation.
