Duck Police Department blotter September 27 – October 3

The Duck Police Department’s weekly blotter for September 27 through October 3, 2021 noted the department had 218 calls for service and 20 traffic enforcement actions were issued by officers.

Also during the week, 109 business checks were made and one unsecured door was found. One extra patrol was requested by an out of town property owner.

Larceny (Duck Road) – A business reported a larceny of approximately 31 wallets with a value of $1,105. The report was filed four days after the larceny. Video of the incident showed a white female putting the wallets in her purse. The suspect was further described as having brown hair and being 5’7” to 5’10” wearing a long dress with stripes and a black face covering. The investigation is ongoing.

Suspicious condition (Schooner Ridge Drive) – Tenants arrived at the home and heard what they believed to be someone walking around the top floor of the residence. Officers arrived and cleared the residence finding no one inside and nothing out of place.

Child lost (Duck Landing Lane) – Officers were called to assist with locating a missing 5-year-old child. Officers found the child sleeping under a bed in the home.

Injury to property (Buffell Head Road) – Officers were called to take a report of criminal damage to property. Upon arrival, the victim explained that chemicals being used to clean a nearby house had damaged the surface of his vehicle, which was parked in the driveway. The incident did not meet the elements of a criminal offense. The victim was provided information to pursue the matter in civil court.

Missing person (Buffell Head Road) – Family members reported a missing 70-year-old male with dementia. Officers quickly located the male walking on a nearby street. The male was driven home by an officer. 

Town code violation (Sea Colony Drive) – Officers responded to a report of a bonfire and a tent on the beach. The suspects were advised of the related town ordinances and the fire was put out prior to officers leaving the beach. 

Hands Across the Border (Checking Station) – A Duck officer participated in a multi-agency checkpoint at the North Carolina/Virginia State Line hosted by the Camden County Sheriff’s Office. Multiple motor vehicle and narcotics violations were addressed. 

Arrest (Duck Road) – A Gastonia man was arrested for driving while license revoked after finding the vehicle he was operating to not have liability insurance.

Traffic crash (Duck Road/Dune Road) – Four vehicles were north bound on Duck Road when the first three vehicles slowed for congestion. The driver of the last vehicle in the line failed to see the vehicles in front of him slowing and struck the vehicle in front of him. The four vehicles collided in a chain. One driver was charged. No apparent injuries were noted.
