North Carolina man sentenced to more than six years in prison for drug, gun case

A Chadbourn man was sentenced October 1 by Judge James C. Dever to a total of 81 months for possession of a firearm by a felon and possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of North Carolina. Lukim Lamont Pittman pleaded guilty to the charges on June 23, 2021.

According to court documents and other information presented in court, the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office engaged in a narcotics investigation over three months involving Pittman.

“In May and July 2019, officers purchased narcotics from Pittman. Then in August 2019, the Sheriff’s Office purchased a quantity of cocaine and a Glock, model 17, 9mm firearm from Pittman,” stated the release. “Pittman had previously been convicted of felony offenses that involved firearms.”

G. Norman Acker III, acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, made the announcement after the sentencing by U.S. District Judge James C. Dever III. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case and Assistant U.S. Attorney Charity Wilson prosecuted.
