A Saturday ride out to a pumpkin patch seems to kick off the season for me. The cooler temperatures are allowing summer flowers to surge in color once more before the first frost arrives. Nor’easters blow in and out and there is the thought about whether it is time or not to light the fireplace yet. Gardeners have canned and frozen the summer vegetables in time to make a hearty soup to ward off the fall chill. The gardeners’ planning and planting in spring, along with the watering and fertilizing of summer has most likely provided a wonderful harvest to carry them through the winter.

I read something so profound this week. It was about seeking God’s Will. There are many of us that sit idle with good intentions of waiting for God to exercise His Will over our lives. I have done that often and maybe you have too. The author said, “That is where we can get into trouble.” He used the garden as an example. You can imagine that if a gardener tilled the soil and left it bare without planting seeds, weeds were sprout and take over. There would be no rows of vegetables, just pesky weeds and definitely no harvest of good things to eat. But when the gardener plants his seeds in the ground and takes care to water and fertilize, there is a wonderful chance he will have a bountiful harvest. The point is that God gives us the ability to plant seeds and we should. We often wait for Him to do something and He is waiting for us!  It is up to us to plan, prepare the soil and plant in anticipation of a harvest. God will do the rest. We have to do our part. When we sit alone and wonder why things haven’t happened that we have prayed for, we may ask ourselves if we have sown any seeds. To have good health, one must take care of our bodies. To have prosperity, one must be willing to work and save. It is not enough to give it all to God to fix or make better for us if we aren’t willing to start the process first by sowing seeds in faith.
