The OBX Dementia Friendly Coalition has partnered with the OBX Tennis Association for the “Love to Remember” Tennis Tournament, set for October 21-24, 2021. For more information, visit https://www.facebook.com/lovetorememberobx or email lovetoremember2021@gmail.com.

Proceeds from the tournament will go to respite care that helps support caregivers and provide educational programs to give advice on helping those loved ones through the difficult path of dementia.

“A Dementia Friendly Community is a village, town, city or county that is informed, safe and respectful of individuals with this disease,” states the event announcement. “The Outer Banks has over twenty restaurants that are Dementia Friendly and we have the First Dementia Friendly Hospital in all of North Carolina. We are currently training businesses, banks and reaching out to grocery stores.”

Organizers invite the community to join in supporting the cause. “All donations are accepted and greatly appreciated,” stated the announcement. “To acknowledge the impact of the disease, we have put up a Memory Wall filling up with Tennis Ball placards bearing the names of those affected by the disease.”
