James Fredrick “Rick” Dunn III, 68, of Kitty Hawk, died October 29, 2021 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, following a courageous fight against cancer and covid.

Rick Dunn was born in Norfolk on July 21, 1953 to the late Margaret Emma Smith and Clifford Dozier Dunn. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by son James “Jimmy” Fredrick Dunn IV and stepmother Effie Bondurant. Survivors include wife Whitney Nichols Dunn, daughters Britney Paige Dunn and Joey Colleen Dunn, grandsons Rick Odell Dunn and Kade Houston Dunn, siblings Gayle Dunn Swann (Leonard), Clifford D. Dunn, Allan F. “Frank” Dunn (Rebecca), W.T. Dunn and Patrick Dunn, step-siblings Corey Quidley, Esther Dellinger (Ronnie) and Pamela Ells-Johnson (Keith), as well as extended family and friends.

A celebration of life will take place at 2 p.m. on November 4 at Twiford Colony Chapel, Manteo.
