First Flight triumphs in basketball game at Cape Hatteras Secondary

First Flight varsity girls basketball team crushed Cape Hatteras Secondary Monday night in Buxton 61-25.

First Flight scored on steals, fast breaks and layups throughout the local matchup.

The Lady Nighthawks roared off to 15 point lead before Cape Hatteras scored its first of six three-pointers racked up during the game.

First Flight senior Emma Richards scored a game-high 18 points. In the fourth quarter, Richards was slotted out front defensively. Three times, she stole a pass and raced down court for a layup. She scored eight points in the final quarter and seven points in the first. Hailey Stanley scored 10 first half points for the game’s second leading scorer.

First Flight coach Ray Richards started Richards, Josephine Voight, Neely Morris, Elizabeth Clagett and Stanley. Coach Richards substituted team members lavishly, playing all 13 players.

On the First Flight roster for this non-conference game were Mackenzie McAvoy, Kellen Morris, Voight, Courtney Beasley, Caroline Gardill, Skylar Wood, Morris, Summer Stevens, Richards, Clagett, Khloe Tucker, Stanley and Aubrey Phanton.

Cape Hatteras Coach Earl Fountain also played his entire 14-member roster: Taylor Mabry, Kylie Phillips, Chloe Flythe, Casia Ensenat, Kimber Ballance, Addyson Wilson, Audrey Kramer, Shayley Ballance, Marisol Velazquez, Grace Vernesoni, Alice Oden, Emma Del Monte, Elizabeth Fairbanks and Abby O’Neal.
