The Outer Banks Hospital Development Council has announced that TowneBank has made a multi-year commitment to help fund the building of the hospital’s Outpatient Cancer Center. The 15,000-square-foot state-of-the-art center will co-locate all of the hospital’s cancer services under one roof to provide cancer care to the Outer Banks community and surrounding regions.

“The Outer Banks Hospital has been a vital part of our community for many years and TowneBank has participated in projects to support the hospital, including the Annual Gala,” said Taylor Sugg, TowneBank Northeastern North Carolina president. “Now it is an honor for us to support the vision of building the Outpatient Cancer Center. This new center will help improve the lives and health of residents throughout the Outer Banks.”

The 2019 Dare County Community Health Needs Assessment demonstrated that cancer is the leading cause of death in Dare County. Since 2014, The Outer Banks Hospital has been focused on elevating cancer care services and is one of a small number of hospitals with 25 beds or less to have achieved an accredited cancer program through the Commission on Cancer. “The goal with this new cancer center is to continue to improve the quality of life and experience for patients and caregivers who are facing the uncertainties that come with a cancer diagnosis,” stated a press release from The Outer Banks Hospital.

The Outer Banks Hospital is a joint venture between Vidant Health and Chesapeake Regional Healthcare. The Outer Banks Hospital has approval as a provider of Medicare and Medicaid programs, licensure by the Division of Facility Services and accreditation by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, the Commission on Cancer, the College of American Pathologists and the American College of Radiology.

Founded in 1999, TowneBank operates over 40 banking offices throughout Hampton Roads and central Virginia, as well as northeastern and central North Carolina, including three locations on the Outer Banks.
