Christmas in the Quarter features many activities to get in the holiday spirit

The Swan Quarter Volunteer Fire Department (SQVFD) and the Hyde County Sheriff’s Office will hold a bicycle helmet giveaway during Christmas in the Quarter activities in the village on Saturday, December 4, 2021 from 3-4:30 p.m.

A limited number of free helmets have been made possible by the North Carolina Department of Transportation. Children ages 5-15 may participate and will be provided information on bicycle safety and proper helmet sizing and use.

The SQVFD will also have funnel cakes for sale beginning at 3 pm inside the bay.

There are many other good, family-oriented activities that will take place that afternoon. The activities will take place in and around the Hyde County Government Center, 30 Oyster Creek Road and across the street at the SQVFD, located at 25 Oyster Creek Rd. People generally begin arriving around 3 p.m.

The Mattie Arts Center Arts & Craft Sale with vendors will be set up in the parking garage of the Government Center. There will also be visits and photos with Santa Claus, music, food and more. The highlight of the afternoon is the parade that begins at 5 p.m.

The public is invited to join in the festivities and get into the holiday spirit.
