Currituck dominates on the Cape Hatteras basketball court

Currituck varsity basketball teams outshot and outran Cape Hatteras Secondary in Buxton Nov. 29, 2021.

Currituck girls defeated Cape Hatteras 64-39 and the Currituck boys bested the Hurricanes 83-28.

The girls game featured long ball. Currituck swished the net with nine three-pointers. Three Lady Knights scored in double figures. Freshman Savannah Banks led scorers with an unofficial 20 points. Juniors Octavia Everette scored 16 and Annabelle O’Donnell, 14. The trio, all starters, accounted for eight of the nine long-distance baskets.

In the boys game, Currituck Knights employed steal-the-ball and break-for-the basket. Fast-break ball and a couple of three-pointers piled up 22 points for senior Carmillo Burton. Tanner Dowdey, also a Currituck senior, scored 18 points.

Knights head coach Byron Powell liberally substituted. A dozen Knights added points to Currituck’s final score.
