Dare County Arts Council is now seeking entries for the 44th Annual Frank Stick Memorial Art Show, which will open at 6 p.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2022.

After not having an opening reception in 2021, Dare County Arts Council is pleased to announce that there will be a reception in 2022.

“This show always brings out some amazing talent,” said Dare County Arts Council gallery manager Tiffany Lindsey. “We are thrilled that we will be able to have an opening reception in January. It is THE winter art event on the Outer Banks!”

Artists wishing to participate in the show can find the prospectus and sign up for a specific time to drop off their work online at DareArts.org/frankstickshow.

Artist James Melvin will judge the 44th Annual Frank Stick Memorial Art Show. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in art education/design from North Carolina A&T State University and currently operates Melvin’s Studio in Nags Head. Melvin is the creator of The Pea Island Lifesaver Series at the NC Aquarium on Roanoke Island and the illustrator of Suzanne Tate’s Nature Series children’s books.

“I have enjoyed the Frank Stick Art Show since the first time I participated in the show in the early eighties,” said Melvin. “I am looking forward to viewing and judging the diverse creations birthed for this prestigious art event.”

Artists are encouraged to enter their most innovative work for the possibility of winning the distinctive Eure Best in Show Award.

The Frank Stick Memorial Art Show is the longest running visual arts exhibit in Dare County and is held in memory of Frank Stick. “His influence on the Outer Banks as a preservationist and artist cemented his lasting legacy as one of the most important figures of the 20th century in the county,” stated a DCAC press release.

The show will be open for viewing during normal gallery hours from January 29 through February 26.

The 44th Annual Frank Stick Memorial Art Show is sponsored by Bev Perdue.
