April 7, 1939 – December 8, 2021

Born in Fairfield, North Carolina to the late Sadie Brickhouse Hudson and the late C. Columbus Hudson, Dot was also preceded in death by all 17 of her aunts and uncles and their spouses and 36 of her first cousins. She is survived by her brother, Christopher; his wife Patricia; their sons, Carl and Bryan and their families; nine first cousins; and a wealth of extended family members, friends and acquaintances.

Dot was educated at Fairfield Elementary School, both East and West Hyde High Schools and Keys Business College in Norfolk.

She began her working life at Dawson’s Wholesale Grocery Supply in Belhaven, NC where she took her first steps toward a lifelong career of growth, independence and working with people. From there she moved to Winston-Salem, NC, and a job as an entry-level file clerk with North Carolina’s Employment Security Commission. Over the next 35 years she took on ever greater responsibilities and moves across the state, retiring finally after rising to supervisory and management positions with that service agency in Washington, NC.

On retirement, she immediately returned to Fairfield and the family and friends with whom she grew up and added to throughout her life. Only when her mother’s and her health needs grew did she return to Washington, NC.

Dot was a life-long and active member of the Fairfield Christian Church. As much as she loved flowers and gardening, her final request was that anyone who would like to memorialize her life do so by sending a contribution to the Fairfield Christian Church, in Fairfield, NC rather than by sending flowers.

Her brother and his wife invite you to join them for a family and friends gathering from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 17 at Bryan Funeral in Swan Quarter, NC, and/or to come to her graveside interment services at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 18 in Fairfield Cemetery in Fairfield, NC. The Fairfield Christian Church is making its fellowship hall available as a meeting place for any who would like to visit with Dot’s family and friends after Saturday’s services.
