The OBX Coastal Humane Society (CHS) partnered with the Southern Shores Fire Department to offer a pet photo session with Santa. Owners brought pets on December 4 and 5 to the fire department at 15 S. Dogwood Trail in Southern Shores. A minimum donation of $10 to the humane society was requested.

“I created this event because I was brainstorming ways to help the OBX Coastal Humane Society and have some fun while doing it. I have always wanted to get a picture of my dogs with Santa and knew other people had to be interested in something like this as well,” said Santa Paws creator Megan Limbacher, 19, who is also behind “Put Your Dog Up in Lights,” which posts photos of pets on the electronic fire department marquee for a $25 minimum donation to CHS. Featured dogs also star in the 2022 Year in Review calendar, available for purchase online at http://www.ssvfd.net/put-your-dog-up-in-lights.html or throughout the community (Outer Barks, the Holistic Pet Shop, Tailwaggers, Tar Heel Trading, Cloud 9 and WaveRiders).

So far, a little over $1000 was brought in from the Santa Paws event, over $1000 from the marquee and another $1000 on the calendars, though Limbacher said there are many more calendars to be sold.

“This was a fun way to get into the Christmas spirit and help to support a great cause while doing it. I hope to make this an annual event to continue supporting the OBX Coastal Humane Society in fun ways!” Limbacher said.
