Number of new COVID cases continues to rise

The number of new COVID-19 cases keeps increasing. Dare County remains in the red category on the CDC’s Level of Community Transmission map, which indicates a high level of community transmission of the virus.

Dare County is reporting 96 of the 100 counties in North Carolina are in the red category.

On Dec. 21, Dare County active cases numbered 162 persons. Eleven people from Dare County were hospitalized with the virus.

In the preceding week, Dare County recorded 167 additional cases.

Dare County reported the total number of COVID-19 deaths at 26 people.

In Dare County, those vaccinated with one shot make up 73% percent of the population eligible or 27,170 people. Those fully vaccinated represent 70% or 25,932 people.
