Dare Board of Commissioners agrees to buy new records management software

Dare County Board of Commissioners met briefly Monday, Dec. 20, 2021 regarding the purchase of new records management software.

The board agreed to purchase Motorola Records Management Software to be used by the Dare County Sheriff’s operations, Emergency Medical Services, Fire Marshal and Dare municipalities.

The total bill is $1,361,497. The source of funding is the E911 Fund for $370,765 and the county’s general fund unassigned balance for $990,732.

In making the recommendation, county manager Robert L. Outten said the current system is outdated and not supported by the manufacturer.
The contract between the county and Motorola was agreed to Sunday night, Dec. 19. Along with the purchase contract is a five-year annual maintenance agreement. The first year no maintenance is charged. For four years, the charge totals $725,640, annually $181,410.

In addition to agreeing to the contract to purchase, the commissioners authorized Outten to sign the contract and execute the required budget amendments.

Dare County Chief Deputy Jeff Deringer told the commissioners “it takes time to build” the system, which is expected to go live March 1, 2023.

As of June 30, 2021, the county’s unassigned fund balance totals $9,960,192.
