Dallas-based ClubCorp officially assumed full ownership of The Currituck Club country club in Corolla, ending its long-time lease of the property.

ClubCorp has operated The Currituck Club for over 20 years and with ownership now in place, ClubCorp and The Currituck Club will move forward with a host of improvements and upgrades, according to a ClubCorp press release. Plans are being finalized, with more than $850,000 in capital investment planned for the club in 2022.

“The new ownership structure enables an even brighter future for the members of this great club. Having full ownership means we can make long-term investments that benefit everyone that weren’t feasible with a lease structure,” said John Cegielski, regional vice president for the ClubCorp Atlantic region. “The club delivers an exceptional experience today, and our long-term vision is to create an experience that has our members and guests raving.”

“Nestled on the shores of Currituck Sound, members and residents alike have found The Currituck Club their home away from home and the place to play golf on a semi-private, world-class 18-hole course designed by the legendary Rees Jones,” stated the release.

Jones brought to life his philosophy of golf course design: create an environment for the game of golf that is challenging, fair and aesthetically pleasing, using as his canvas the type of land where golf began. The result is a layout stretching 6,885 yards of diverse coastal terrain, including sand dunes, wetlands, maritime forests and rugged shorelines. The club’s championship course was also rated one of the “10 Best New Places You Can Play” by Golf magazine and in May of 1999, Golf Digest recognized The Currituck Club as one of the “Top 25 Courses in North Carolina.”

A cornerstone of all the ClubCorp properties, The Currituck Club experience includes dining options such as the Hunt Club Tavern.

The Currituck Club offers opportunities for golf, dining, corporate entertaining, golf outings and private parties. Residents of the surrounding Currituck Club community enjoy seven tennis courts, basketball and volleyball courts, a kids’ playground, fitness center, bike trails, lawn games, beach shuttle and more.
