Shannon Twiddy will retire from the Town of Manteo after 28 years of service on March 1, 2022.

Twiddy, who is currently the deputy town manager/finance director, has served many different roles over the years. She began her career in 1993 as the town clerk and later served as the town planner, assistant town manager/town planner, interim town manager, finance director and deputy town manager.

Her retirement announcement from the town notes that in addition to a bachelor of science degree from Kennedy-Western University, Twiddy was “committed to continuing her education while working for the Town completing many courses, such as Federal Emergency training and governmental accounting, and is a graduate of the Municipal and County Administration Course offered by the University of North Carolina’s Institute of Government. She held various licenses and certifications, including Certified Coastal Area Management Act (CAMA) Officer, NC Notary Public, Certified Municipal Clerk, NC Government Finance Officer, NC Wastewater License, just to name a few.”

Twiddy has also volunteered to help out at town events as well as with community organizations such as the March of Dimes, Outer Banks Relief Foundation and Outer Banks Sporting Events.

“Mrs. Twiddy strived to enrich the Town of Manteo, helping to meet its needs and those of its residents, visitors, staff, and volunteers alike each and every year,” stated the town’s announcement. “While it is challenging to sum up all the years of Shannon’s service and dedication to the Town, it may be more difficult to capture all the knowledge and history that she has gathered.

“The Town is thankful for Mrs. Twiddy’s dedication and love of community that she has demonstrated through all her hard work and efforts.”
