Frances Elizabeth Stubbs Puryear, 93, of Elizabeth City, died January 28, 2022 at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center following a brief, unexpected illness.

Frances was born in Cheraw, SC on August 30, 1928 to the late Clara Powell Stubbs and Arthur Bernard Stubbs.

She was preceded in death by husband Edward Franklin Puryear III and brothers Arthur Bernard Stubbs Jr. and Edward W. Stubbs.

Survivors include daughter Virginia “Ginny” Puryear Gillam (Hardy); granddaughter Kathryn Elizabeth Gillam; and grandson Noah Hardy Gillam.

Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on February 4 at Twiford Memorial Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to the SPCA of Northeastern NC, 102 Enterprise Drive, Elizabeth City, NC 27909. Twiford Funeral Home is serving the family. www.TwifordFH.com
