Both the number of reported positive COVID-19 cases and the number reported tests have been decreasing over the past few weeks.

The total number of new laboratory-confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 reported in Dare County for the past week was 140. Currently, based on the reported positive cases, there are 76 active COVID-19 cases among residents of Dare. Nine residents are hospitalized due to complications from COVID-19.

A resident case is considered active if the resident is in a five-day isolation period or reports being symptomatic beyond five days.

Dare County remains an area of high community transmission of COVID-19.

Due to the decrease in testing across the county, this will be the last week the Mako Medical drive-through COVID-19 testing site is open. Drive-through testing will be available this week on Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Dare County Family Recreation Park located at 602 Mustian Street in Kill Devil Hills. Patients will not be charged for the test. Insurance information will be collected for those with insurance.

For fastest service at the drive-through COVID-19 testing site, pre-registration is strongly encouraged. Individuals may pre-register online at https://bit.ly/nc-kdh-18931. Results will be available through the Mako Medical online portal within 48 hours from the test date.

COVID-19 vaccinations are readily available at numerous locations throughout the county including the health department and many area pharmacies such as Walgreens, CVS, Sunshine Family Pharmacy, Island Pharmacy, Bear Drugs and Beach Pharmacies in Avon and Hatteras.

Since late December 2020, a total of 27,924 (75%) Dare County residents have received an initial dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, 26,676 (72%) individuals have been vaccinated with a two-dose mRNA series or one dose or J&J, a total of 13,715 (37%) have received booster doses.

Albemarle Regional Health Services last reported active cases and deaths for Currituck, Camden and Pasquotank Jan. 28, 2022. The agency is reporting outbreaks at facilities.

Hyde County as of Feb. 11, 2022:

Hyde County reported seven positive cases. Last week, the total was 60.

Deaths: 14 residents, remains the same.

Vaccinated: 69% one dose; 66% fully

Hyde County Health Department provides COVID-19 testing on location Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Appointments are required. Call 252-926-4399 to schedule an appointment.

Tyrrell County as of Feb. 14, 2022:

Active Cases: 13 residents

Deaths: eight residents. On Feb.11, the Martin-Tyrrell-Washington Health District reported an additional death from COVID-19. The agency wrote “Our sincere condolences to the family, friends, and caretakers of this patient.”

Vaccinated: 51% one dose; 49% fully, from Martin-Tyrrell-Washington District Health

Tyrrell House has a total of nine active staff cases and 13 resident cases.

Currituck as of Feb. 15, 2022:

Vaccinated: 49% one dose; 43% fully

Currituck House: 16 resident cases and 11 staff cases

Currituck Health and Rehab: 22 active staff cases and 14 resident cases.

Camden as of Feb. 15, 2022:

Vaccinated: 60% one dose, 52% fully

Pasquotank as of Feb. 15, 2022:

Vaccinated: 57% one dose; 51% fully.

Albemarle District Jail: two staff, 13 residents

Citadel: 13 staff; one resident

Elizabeth City Health and Rehab: 37 staff, 59 residents. Five deaths, remains the same

Waterbrooke: 25 staff, 50 residents

Hyde County Schools reports positive results of home test cases as shared with the school system by parents. Hyde County Schools reports active cases individually:

On Feb. 10 and Feb. 14, 2022, an Ocracoke elementary school student tested positive for coronavirus on home tests Wednesday, Feb. 9. One student was last on campus Tuesday, Feb. 8 and the other was last on campus Feb. 9.

On Feb. 14, Hyde Schools reported a Mattamuskeet Early College-Middle School student tested positive for the coronavirus on a home test on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2022. The student was last on a campus Friday, Feb. 11, 2022.

Tyrrell County Schools: On Feb. 11, 2022, Tyrrell County Schools had eight active positive student cases with eight in quarantine. The system posted two active positive staff cases with none in quarantine.
