The Roanoke Island Garden Club will meet on Thursday, March 3 at Odom Hall at The Elizabethan Gardens. Refreshments will be served at 12:30 p.m. followed by a presentation by Kathy Mitchell, former conservation horticulturist at the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island.

Mitchell will talk about the North Carolina Coastal Landscapes Initiative (CLI), a collaborative effort to encourage sustainable and environmentally-friendly landscaping practices along the coast and in the mainland communities. A primary focus of CLI is to promote the use of native plants in local landscaping and work with growers and garden centers to increase availability of these beautiful but often overlooked plants, stated a press release from RIGC.

The club meets the first Thursday of each month from September through May. Refreshments are served at 12:30 p.m. and the meeting starts at 1 p.m. The club sponsors educational programs about all aspects of gardening and promotes a variety of community garden-related projects.
