Dare County Board of Education to meet Tuesday

The regular monthly meeting of the Dare County Board of Education on March 8 is set to be filled with reports from Superintendent John Farrelly and new business items.

On March 8, the school board will initially meet in special closed session at 3 p.m. at First Flight High School. The purpose of the meeting is for the board to meet with its attorney in closed session to preserve the attorney-client privilege and to consider confidential personnel matters.

The regular monthly meeting of the board follows at 5 p.m. and will be open to the public. The meeting will also be broadcast live via YouTube on the Dare County Schools website at daretolearn.org.

Members of the public can submit documents for board members to review; new procedures for document submission at board meetings have been put in place. The new procedures are outlined in Board Policy 2340, Section F.

At the regular meeting, the superintendent will report on the following items:

– Dare Education Foundation and Board of Education Joint Housing Committee

– Temperature check stations

– Playground installations

– Public school budget process update

– Athletic facilities – repairs and renovations allotment

Under new business, the school board will consider:

– Masks on school buses and vans; superintendent is recommending optional mask wearing

– Removing Regulation 4231/5021/7263 Face coverings and making no modification to current optional mask wearing

– Approving a Center of Safe Schools Safety Grant

– Considering first reading of policy updates for use of school facilities and a form

– Approving the system’s Capital Improvement Plan for fiscal years 2023 through 2027

– Approving a contract for roof replacement at Cape Hatteras Secondary School
