Food for Thought Outer Banks has announced the expansion of its program to include all pre-K through eighth grade students for free nutritional weekend meals. A press release from the organization notes the expansion matches the county’s expanded free breakfast and lunch program.

Shelf-stable meals are now being sent home every Friday to participants until the end of the school year. Each bag will contain healthy meals and snacks to include two breakfasts, two lunches, snacks and milk.

“Families who wish to receive a bag need to contact their school’s guidance counselor for a form. There are no income restrictions; everyone who completes the application will be accepted,” stated the release. “Participation is entirely anonymous, and no financial or identifying information is shared with Food for Thought volunteers.
