Eugene “Wright” Emory Jr., 64, of Nags Head, NC died unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, March 16, 2022.

Wright was born on November 9, 1957 in Hertford County and grew up in Rich Square, NC. He was the son of the late Eugene and Ann Lassiter Emory. He was a member of Rich Square United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Northeast Academy and attended North Carolina State University and Campbell University. Wright began his career in Raleigh, NC, working with Games and Gadgets (later Electronics Boutique). His position there evolved into several years working and living in King of Prussia, PA and abroad in London, England, and Brisbane, Australia. Wright lived a full and diverse life. Among his hobbies were diving, sailing, and golf. He enjoyed attending theater productions in both New York and Durham, NC with his family and friends. Wright’s true passion has always been photography since he was in high school. He loved action, sports, and outdoor photography. His love of sports photography led to his own business, OBX Sportshots.

He returned to the U.S. in 1997 to reside in his favorite location in the whole world, the Outer Banks of NC. He was employed at the Outer Banks Hospital in Dare County.

Wright is survived by his brother, Scott and his wife, Julie, of Lasker; and his only niece and the apple of his eye, Rebecca of Greenville.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service in Rich Square.

A celebration of life graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 21, 2022 at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Rich Square.

Wright will be remembered as a wonderful brother, uncle, cousin, and nephew, but most of all as a fun-loving friend who lived a full and rich life and will be truly missed.
